Product Overview: ERA Vectis Deadbolt Multipoint Door Lock
The ERA Vectis Deadbolt multipoint door lock is engineered for security and convenience, featuring a robust design with 2 hooks, 1 deadbolt, and 1 latch. This lock is ideal for enhancing the safety of your doors while providing ease of use.
Identifying Your Lock
Identifying an ERA Vectis multipoint door lock can be straightforward, but be aware of potential pitfalls. ERA manufactures locks for various door and window companies, often leading to rebranding. While many faceplates bear the ERA logo, others may display different manufacturers' markings.
Historical Context
It's worth noting that ERA locks are sometimes referred to as Saracen, a nod to their origins when Laird produced locks for the double glazing industry before rebranding as ERA.
Mechanism and Compatibility
All ERA Vectis multipoint locks feature a split spindle mechanism, simplifying replacements by focusing on a single locking function. Notably, these locks share levers with the British Standard ERA Fortress mortice lock, allowing for key-alike configurations with traditional mortice locks. We can assist in keying alike your locks as needed.
Distinctive Gearbox Features
The ERA Vectis gearbox is uniquely designed with a square shape and no corner cutouts, featuring a UK keyway for traditional mortice keys. The gearbox measures 221mm in length, with a width determined by the backset plus 18mm. Available in 35mm or 45mm backsets, all ERA gearboxes maintain consistent dimensions.
Locking Arrangements
ERA multipoint locks offer two hook locking arrangements:
- Standard Hook: Compact design, ideal for tight routing when replacing obsolete locks.
- Security Steel Hook: Larger hook case for enhanced security, which may require modifications to the door for installation.
Both hooks are bi-directional, with the top hook throwing upwards and the bottom hook downwards for added security.
Deadbolt Functionality
The deadbolt, referred to as a linear bolt by ERA, features an 18mm throw and is chamfered to secure the door against the frame. These locks are commonly used on timber and composite doors.
Operation Instructions
To lock the door:
- Lift the handle upwards to engage the locking points.
- Secure the locking points and main deadbolt (if applicable) by turning the key.
To unlock the door:
- Turn the key to unlock the system.
- Push the handle downwards to disengage the locking points and retract the latch.
Compliance and Testing
The ERA Vectis multipoint door lock meets the requirements of BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 4 Corrosion Resistance (240 hours) and has been endurance tested to 50,000 cycles. It is designed to comply with PAS24:2012 standards for enhanced security.
