This alternative bathroom mortice lock and handle set is designed specifically for disabled toilet doors, providing a reliable and secure solution. It serves as a direct replacement for RADAR and NKS locks, featuring a non-handed design that allows for easy reversal of the latch.

Included in the kit are a latchbolt, a special NKS key, and a lever handle. The compatibility between NKS and RADAR keys ensures seamless access to over 10,000 disabled toilets across the UK, promoting independence for users.

The RADAR key, also known as the NKS key, is a distinctive blue, red, or silver key that grants access to locked accessible toilets, managed by approximately 400 local authorities. This initiative, established by the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (now Disability Rights UK), has been instrumental since 1981 in ensuring that accessible toilets remain available and clean for disabled individuals.

Prior to the introduction of RADAR locks, many establishments required disabled individuals to request access to toilets, often leading to inconvenience and delays. The NKS has transformed this experience, allowing users to access facilities freely.

This mortice lock is available exclusively in a satin chrome finish and features a deadlatch with a 14mm throw. For enhanced security or the option to lock the bathroom door from the outside, consider a euro case mortice lock with a key and turn euro cylinder.

From the inside, the deadlatch locks automatically upon closing the door and can be unlocked using the lever handle. Externally, it can be accessed with an NKS or RADAR key. The lock comes with a matching striking plate and a set of lever handles, making it suitable for most internal wooden doors. Its non-handed design allows for installation on doors that hinge left or right and open inwards or outwards.

Each lock is supplied with one nickel-plated steel key, with additional keys available upon request. All locks operate on the same key as standard, eliminating the need for keyed alike options.

Please note that these locks are not suitable for fire doors. Mortice lever locks are typically installed on wooden doors but can also be used on steel, aluminum, and composite doors. They are secured from both sides with a key, which engages the deadbolt.

For maximum security on external doors, we recommend using a British Standard BS3621 product. Always check with the property owner's insurance requirements for both residential and commercial properties.

Lever mortice locks are also commonly used for internal doors, often featuring 3 lever designs where security needs are less stringent. When replacing an existing lock, be aware that the new mortice lock may differ in size due to security upgrades or design changes. Adjustments to the door may be necessary for proper fitting.

For new timber doors, consider using Souber’s DBB morticer for efficient installation. Ensure your door meets the minimum thickness requirement of 44mm as recommended by the Master Locksmith Association.
