Product Information
Introducing the GU New Style Genuine Gearboxes, designed exclusively for new style GU locks. Please note that these gearboxes are not compatible with old style versions.
Our new-style GU gearboxes come in a wide range of operations, making them one of the most extensive selections of backsets available on the market. You can choose from backsets of 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 45mm, and 55mm featuring a lift lever function, as well as 35mm and 45mm options with a split spindle function. Additionally, the 35mm backset is available with the Europa Plus fast locking function.
To distinguish new-style GU locks from their old-style counterparts, look for the unique shape at the top of the gearbox. Old-style locks have a top corner that is removed, while new versions feature a vertical groove designed to accommodate bolts for handles. Remember, the two gearboxes are not interchangeable; a new-style gearbox will not fit an old-style multipoint lock.
GU multipoint lock gearboxes are equipped with both a latch and a deadbolt, measuring 191mm in height (excluding fixing lugs) and the backset + 16mm in width. The latch measures 32mm high, while the deadbolt is 35mm high, with a distance of 54mm from the bottom of the latch to the top of the deadbolt.
Installation is straightforward, as GU gearboxes are secured to their faceplates with three screws. The distance from the top screw to the middle screw is 108mm, and from the middle screw to the bottom screw is 92mm.
When measuring your backset, always allow an additional 2mm if the faceplate is still attached to the gearbox.
Key Features:
- Compatible with new style GU locks only; not suitable for old style versions.
- A comprehensive range of associated products available, including multipoint door locks, keeps, spindles, handles, and accessories.
Operation Options:
- Lift Lever or Split Spindle
Latch Reversal Instructions:
Depending on the date of manufacture, you can reverse the latch by:
- Undoing the screw(s) in the latch, removing it, reversing, and reinserting.
- Using a flat-bladed screwdriver in the small rectangular slot above the spindle while pulling out the latch simultaneously. Reverse and reinsert.
Nightlatch Reversal Instructions:
To reverse the nightlatch, remove the latch to access a small screw. Use a small bladed screwdriver to turn the screw 180 degrees, then return the latch to its correct position.
Locking and Unlocking Instructions:
To Lock the Door:
- Close the door to automatically engage the latch.
- Lift the handle to engage additional locking points.
- Throw the deadbolt and secure the system by turning the key (on some brands, lifting the handle will throw the deadbolt).
To Unlock the Door:
- Unlock the system by turning the key.
- Push the handle down to disengage the locking points.
- A further quarter turn of the key will retract the latch.
