Product Information
Permdor gearboxes are designed to be compact and efficient, measuring just 185mm high with a backset of +15mm, making them the smallest gearboxes available on the market. They feature a distance of 64mm between the latch and deadbolt, and 63mm from the spindle to the top of the gearbox. A unique groove above the spindle facilitates the installation of handles with a screw positioned above the lever.
Each Permdor lock includes both a latch and a deadbolt within the gearbox, ensuring robust security.
The gearboxes are affixed to the faceplate using rivets, which can be easily removed and replaced, allowing for straightforward gearbox swaps. This distinctive feature makes Permdor gearboxes easily identifiable in the market. For detailed instructions, please refer to our guide and video on replacing a Permdor gearbox.
Note: You may come across older Permdor gearboxes that are attached with screws and have a passivated yellow finish. The operation of these locks is indicated by a sticker on the side (red = key wind, blue = lift lever). These older models were handed and are no longer in production.
Operation: Lift lever or split spindle
Latch Reversal: To reverse the latch, push it in until a screw appears at the back of the lockcase. Unscrew to remove the latch, reverse it, reinsert, and replace the screw.
Nightlatch Reversal: The small rectangular slot next to the spindle hole contains a hollow black roll pin. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to push the pin to the opposite side to reverse the function.
Permdor cases are secured with pin rivets located on the side of the case (one at the top and one at the bottom). To remove, simply knock the pins out with a punch. The original pins can usually be reused, but replacement pin rivets are available if needed.
To Lock the Door:
- Close the door to automatically engage the latch.
- Lift the handle to engage the additional locking points.
- Throw the deadbolt and secure the system by turning the key (on some brands, lifting the handle will throw the deadbolt).
To Unlock the Door:
- Unlock the system by turning the key.
- Push the handle down to disengage the locking points.
- A further quarter turn of the key will retract the latch.
