Product Overview: KFV Key Wind Multipoint Door Lock
The KFV Key Wind multipoint door lock is designed for enhanced security and ease of use, featuring a robust configuration of 2 Pin Bolts, 1 Deadbolt, and 1 Latch.
Identification Tips
Identifying a KFV multipoint door lock can be tricky, especially with earlier models lacking a visible stamp on the faceplate. However, recent models proudly display the KFV logo.
To accurately identify your lock, we recommend removing it from the door. Early models typically have a yellow passivated faceplate and dark grey gearboxes, while newer versions feature shiny silver faceplates and light grey gearboxes. The most reliable method for identification is to compare measurements with our outline drawings.
Specifications
- Gearbox Type: Single spindle
- Centre Measurement: 92mm
- Overall Gearbox Height: 210mm
- Bolt Throw: 21mm
- Distance from Latch Bottom to Deadbolt Top: 56mm
- Distance from Spindle to Top of Case: 85mm
The gearbox is designed with a hole and groove to accommodate bolt-through handle fixings.
Connection Details
Older KFV gearboxes are typically attached to the faceplate with 1/8" rivets, a feature shared with few other brands, such as Winkhaus. In contrast, newer KFV locks utilize screws for this connection, simplifying the replacement process.
Lock Variants
KFV locks are available in both lift lever and key wind variants. It’s important to note that these two types are not interchangeable; a lift lever lock cannot be converted to a key wind gearbox and vice versa.
Measuring Backset
When measuring the backset, remember to account for an additional 2-3mm for the faceplate. For instance, a 35mm backset gearbox will measure 32mm when detached from the strip.
Pin and Deadbolt Features
KFV pins are crafted from hardened steel for maximum resistance against sawing. These small, round bolts feature a chamfered tip that extends when the lock is engaged. The deadbolts are uniquely designed with a chamfered center, aiding in the lock's connection to the keep, and are identifiable by their distinctive raised parts at the top and bottom.
Operation Instructions
To Lock the Door:
- Close the door to automatically engage the latch.
- Turn the key to throw and engage the locking points.
To Unlock the Door:
- Turn the key to unlock by "unwinding" the locking points.

Measuring Guidelines
How to Measure the Backset:
- Identify the Lock Position: Close the door and locate the lock.
- Measure from the Edge: Use a tape measure to find the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the keyhole. This is your backset measurement.
- Account for Faceplate: Remember to add an additional 2-3mm for the faceplate thickness.
How to Measure the Centres (PZ):
- Locate the Keyhole and Handle: Identify the positions of the keyhole and the handle on the door.
- Measure the Distance: Measure the distance from the center of the keyhole to the center of the handle. This measurement is your PZ.
How to Measure the Faceplate:
- Remove the Lock: If possible, take the lock out of the door for accurate measurement.
- Measure the Width and Length: Use a ruler to measure the width and length of the faceplate. Ensure to note any specific shapes or cutouts.
These guidelines will help ensure you have the correct measurements for your KFV Key Wind multipoint door lock installation.
