Product Information

Fuhr multipoint door lock gearboxes are designed for durability and security. They feature a deadbolt that throws 20mm, except for 25mm and 30mm backset locks, which throw 14mm. The gearbox dimensions are 220mm in length and a width of 18mm. Both the latch and deadbolt are 31mm high, with a distance of 61mm between the bottom of the latch and the top of the deadbolt. Gearboxes are securely fixed to faceplates using three screws, with the top screw to middle screw distance measuring 91mm, and the middle to bottom screw distance measuring 108mm.

Fuhr locks come equipped with a ball bearing and spring pre-fitted. This design includes a tiny notch on the sliding internal strip that the ball bearing engages under spring tension, providing a more positive locking feel when the handle is operated. If you try a lock without this spring and ball bearing, you will notice a significant difference in operation. While some replacement gearboxes on the market may lack these components, all of Duffells' replacement Fuhr gearboxes come with them pre-fitted for a seamless swap.

When replacing an existing Fuhr multipoint lock or gearbox, be aware that the latch height may differ. Older versions of Fuhr multipoint lock gearboxes feature a latch that is 28mm high, while newer versions have a latch height of 33mm. If the latch on the old lock is intact, it can be removed by undoing the Allen key bolt in the old gearbox, allowing for re-use in the new lock.

Additionally, take note of 30mm gearboxes fitted to bifold doors, particularly Smarts Aluminium doors, as these do not interchange with the standard 856 gearbox.

We offer a comprehensive range of associated products for Fuhr 856 - Lift Lever gearboxes, including multipoint door locks, keeps, spindles, handles, and accessories.

To Lock the Door

  1. Close the door to automatically engage the latch.

  2. Lift the handle to engage the additional locking points.

  3. Throw the deadbolt and secure the system by turning the key (on some brands, lifting the handle will throw the deadbolt).

To Unlock the Door

  1. Unlock the system by turning the key.

  2. Push the handle downwards to disengage the locking points.

  3. A further quarter turn of the key will retract the latch.

Operation: Lift lever or split spindle

Latch Reversal: Undo the screw in the side of the lock case adjacent to the latch. Remove the latch, reverse it, reinsert, and replace the screw.

To measure the backset, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the Lock Position: Locate the edge of the door where the lock is installed.

  2. Measure from the Edge: Use a tape measure to find the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the keyhole or cylinder. This distance is your backset measurement.

  3. Common Backset Sizes: For Fuhr locks, the common backset sizes are 30mm, 35mm, and 40mm.

To measure the centres (PZ measurement):

  1. Locate the Keyhole: Identify the position of the keyhole on the door.

  2. Measure from the Keyhole to the Handle: Measure the distance from the center of the keyhole to the center of the handle or lever. This distance is your PZ measurement, which should be 92mm for Fuhr locks.

Regarding the operation of the Lift Lever or Split Spindle Nightlatch:

  • Lift Lever: This operation involves lifting the handle to engage the locking mechanism. It allows for easy locking and unlocking of the door with a simple upward motion.

  • Split Spindle Nightlatch: This type of operation allows the handle to be operated independently from the locking mechanism. When the handle is turned, it can retract the latch without affecting the deadbolt, providing flexibility in securing the door.

These specifications ensure that you have a clear understanding of how to measure and operate your Fuhr multipoint door lock effectively.
