Product Overview: Winkhaus Cobra Gearboxes
Winkhaus gearboxes are renowned for their compact design, with all models (except the AV4) measuring 185mm high and a backset of +15mm, making them the smallest gearboxes available on the market. They feature a precise measurement of 64mm between the latch and deadbolt, and 63mm from the spindle to the top of the gearbox. A unique groove above the spindle facilitates the installation of handles with a screw positioned above the lever.
Lock Variants and Identification
Winkhaus Cobra locks come equipped with both a latch and deadbolt within the gearbox. They are available in three operational types: lift lever, split spindle, and key wind. You can easily identify the type of lock by the color of the sticker on the side of the gearbox:

Blue: Lift lever

Red: Key wind
Our inventory primarily includes the green split spindle locks, as they offer versatility by allowing lever operation when a solid spindle is inserted through the follower. Notably, there is no price difference among the lock types, making the split spindle a practical choice for a wider range of applications.
Unique Features and Replacement Guidance
Winkhaus gearboxes are uniquely attached to the faceplate using rivets, which can be easily removed and replaced during gearbox swaps. This distinctive feature not only simplifies identification but also sets Winkhaus apart in the market. Important Note on Older Models
Be aware that some older Winkhaus gearboxes may be attached to the faceplate with screws and feature a passivated yellow finish. The operation type can still be identified by the sticker on the side (red for key wind and blue for lift lever). These older locks were handed and are no longer in production.
