Product Overview: Winkhaus Cobra Multipoint Door Lock
The Winkhaus Cobra multipoint door lock is designed for enhanced security and functionality, featuring a robust configuration of 4 hooks, 1 deadbolt, and 1 latch. This lock is the original multipoint lock from Winkhaus, known for its reliability and innovative design.
Key Features:
- Locking Mechanism: The Cobra lock includes a central latch and deadbolt, complemented by either 2 or 4 Cobra hook locking points. This ensures a secure closure and resistance against forced entry.
- Operation Options: Available in lift lever operation, split spindle, or key wind, the Cobra lock caters to various user preferences and installation needs.
- Locking Distances: Cobra locks typically feature a locking distance of 1490mm between external hooks, a standard that has gained popularity among manufacturers.
- Compatibility: The Winkhaus Trulocks share the same gearbox as the Cobra but differ in hook design. Notably, Cobra locks are non-handed, while Trulocks are handed.
Identification:
To easily identify a Winkhaus Cobra lock, check the faceplate for the Winkhaus logo and the Secured by Design logo. The central deadbolt and non-handed hooks are distinctive features of the Cobra version.
Additional Security Features:
- Entryguard Function: This feature acts like a door chain, providing an extra layer of security. It can be released from the outside by turning the key an additional 45 degrees.
- FA Lockout Cylinder: This double function incorporates two locking cylinders, allowing for enhanced security when the property is unoccupied. It prevents unauthorized exit from the inside while maintaining the ability to lock both cylinders with the same key.
Installation and Upgrades:
All Winkhaus locks share the same routing details, making it easy to change locking operations or upgrade to automatic locking. Note that new keeps and handles may be necessary for certain upgrades.
Gearbox Specifications:
Winkhaus gearboxes, except for the AV4 model, measure 185mm high with a backset of +15mm, making them among the smallest on the market. They feature a groove above the spindle for easy handle fitment.
Lock Operation:
-
To Lock the Door:
- Close the door to automatically engage the latch.
- Turn the key to throw and engage the locking points.
-
To Unlock the Door:
- Turn the key to unwind the locking points.
- A further quarter turn retracts the latch.
Security Assurance:
Winkhaus Cobra locks are tested to 100,000 cycles, ensuring durability and reliability for long-term use. With solid steel Cobra hooks that fully engage the keep rail, these locks provide exceptional resistance against forced entry.

For precise measurements, follow these guidelines:
Measuring the Backset: To measure the backset, take a ruler and measure the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the lock cylinder. This measurement is crucial for ensuring the lock fits properly.
Measuring the Centres (PZ): The PZ measurement is the distance from the center of the keyhole to the center of the handle hole. Use a tape measure to find this distance accurately.
Measuring the Faceplate: To measure the faceplate, you need to determine its width and height. Measure the width across the faceplate and the height from the top to the bottom. This ensures compatibility with your door.
Understanding Operation Options: The operation of the lock can vary based on user preference. Common options include key operation, lever handle, or a combination of both. Select the option that best suits your needs from the drop-down menu.
